Lithium-polymer batteries (Li-Poly)

Contrary to traditional lithium-ion rechargeable batteries with a liquid electrolyte, lithium-polymer (Li-Poly) rechargeable batteries use a solid electrolyte with a lithium salt dissolved in the conducting polymer as the main component. Use of a solid polymer increases cell resistance in the event of a short circuit and eliminates problems associated with possible electrolyte leakage, significantly improving the operational safety of these rechargeable batteries. These rechargeable batteries feature high energy density and relatively high flexibility when it comes to designing shapes and sizes. However, they are not very resistant to even small overcharging, and thus to ensure fault-free and safe operation the rechargeable batteries or rechargeable battery packs (cell packs) have to be equipped with BMS – an electronic battery management system.

Wamtechnik does not have a permanent range of lithium-polymer cells, as the choice of manufacturer and cell depends on particular project requirements. In practice we often supply Panasonic and JYH Battery lithium-polymer cells. However, solutions with cells from other manufacturers are also available.

Lithium-polymer rechargeable batteries with capacities up to 5000 mAh are used in portable devices (e.g. mobile, digital cameras, palmtops, multimedia players) and in model building (cars and aircraft). 2,7
